The Master of Public Administration (MPA) is for individuals who are either currently working within the government/public arena or have plans to do so in the future. The degree focuses on administrative and management functions as they are carried out in the government and public sectors and typical core topics include: public management, policy analysis, managerial accounting, ethics, public finance, information systems management, and microeconomics. Most of the MPA programs listed below are accredited by the Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA). NASPAA is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as the accreditor for master degree programs in public administration. While there are some similarities in the core topics covered in the MPA and the MBA, the topics within the MPA program are tailored to focus specifically on application in the government and public sectors, whereas MBA topics generally have a for-profit focus.
